Services

We're pleased to offer the following services at Dearborn Animal Hospital:

Routine Preventative Care
From yearly vaccines to monthly prevention to oral care, we have got your dog or cat covered. With the rise of tick-borne diseases and cases of canine influenza virus, prevention is key. Ask us today!

Comprehensive Physical Exam
There is no better diagnostic tool than a thorough physical exam. Our skilled veterinarians will examine your pet from nose to tail and discuss their findings with you. Annual exams are recommended every six to twelve months and are always performed during sick visits.

Cat Vaccinations
The recommended annual vaccines for your feline companion include Rabies and Feline Distemper (FVRCP). Indoor/Outdoor cats also require the annual Feline Leukemia vaccine. Ask us what combination is best for your cat!

Dog Vaccinations
The recommended annual vaccines for your canine pal include Rabies and Canine Distemper Parvovirus combination (DHPP-C). If your dog is ever exposed to standing water of any type, we also recommend annual Leptospirosis vaccine. If your furry companion is in contact with other dogs by way of grooming, boarding, or dog parks, we recommend the annual Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccine. We also carry the bivalent Canine Influenza virus and Lyme vaccines for those canine friends who are at risk of exposure. Talk to us about your dog’s risk today!

Surgical Procedures
With our state-of-the-art, AAHA certified surgical suite, our veterinarians offer multiple soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures. Available surgeries include spays, neuters, mass removals, exploratory laparotomies, various amputations, bone pin placements for long bone fractures, enucleations, splenectomies, and many more! Surgical procedures are performed only during the weekdays.

Dental Cleaning
Your dog and cat’s dental and periodontal health is just as important as any other body system. Our veterinarians perform oral examinations with every comprehensive physical exam and advise dental cleanings when necessary. During a dental cleaning, we use an ultrasonic scaler to clean the teeth then our skilled veterinarians examine each tooth, charting any abnormalities. Full dental radiographs help look beyond the tooth’s surface to also identify any problems. We also have a dental drill available to assist with any extractions necessary.

On Site Lab Services
When your family pet is ill, often there is nothing more important than on site laboratory services. We offer various in-house bloodwork panels, designed to suite your pet’s needs, as well as occult heartworm and Ehrlichia tests that give results in minutes. Microscopic examinations are available for various skin tests, cytology, microfilaria tests, and immediate urine or fecal examinations.

Radiology
In the unfortunate event your pet may have a musculoskeletal injury, abdominal abnormality, or thoracic issue, we offer same day 3-view x-rays to further diagnosis. Our skilled veterinary nurses and assistants frame then capture the radiographic image, then the veterinarians interpret and make a treatment plan to best suite your furry companion.

Boarding Services
When you must go out of town or the pet sitter fell through, Dearborn Animal Hospital offers dog and cat boarding for your furry family members. There are multiple sizes of cages and runs to accommodate your canine companion as well as cat condos for the feline friends. Day boarding is also available for any short stays. Regardless of the length of stay, our dedicated kennel staff keep great care of your pets with walks, feedings, and lots of cuddles. Our veterinarians are always kept up to speed on boarders and our veterinary nurses and assistants are available to administer any special medication or diet your pet may require.

Emergency Medical Care
At Dearborn Animal Hospital, we understand that medical emergencies happen with our pets and often at the worst time. We offer walk-in visits each morning beginning at 9:00am. Please call first in the case of emergency to see if you should bring your pet to Dearborn Animal Hospital or an Emergency Clinic. In the event of an emergency, your pet will be triaged by a veterinary nurse or assistant and then veterinarian. If a life-threatening condition is identified, our veterinarians will take immediate action through diagnostics and life-saving procedures to provide the best medicine in a critical time.

Pharmacy and Medication Dispensing
For our clients’ convenience and needs, we have stocked an extensive pharmacy so you have the medication as soon as possible. From monthly preventative to pain medications, antibiotics, and targeted therapy, Dearborn Animal Hospital provides most of your pets’ prescriptions and at a fair price. Also, if we do not have a medication you require in stock, we can often order it immediately with scheduled arrival within a few days. Please allow our staff at least 24 hours to complete your prescription requests.

Prescription Diets
Sometimes your family pet’s medication comes in the form of nutrition! For that, Dearborn Animal Hospital offers multiple diets from Hill’s Science Diet, Purina, and Royal Canin. We can also order your specific diet and have it ready for pick-up usually within a week.

Microchip Identification
We are so thankful for good Samaritans willing to pick up lost pets! If you happen to find a wandering furry friend, please bring them to us and we will be happy to scan them for a microchip. Also, consider microchipping your family furry kid with us in the unfortunate event they may wander off and need a way to get home!

Health Certificates
For the national and international furry travelers, our veterinarians are licensed to provide health certificates. Please call to inquire in advance and be able to provide a destination address so we can get the paperwork rolling!

Appointments

Our customer service representatives and team will attempt to accommodate all scheduling requests to the best of our ability, maintaining several same day sick pet appointments to fully care for our patients with last minute ailments. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us and come in immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency. If you have an appointment, please arrive at least 15 minutes early. If you are more than 5 minutes past your appointment time,  you risk losing your appointment slot. We have a 24-hour appointment cancellation policy and require at least 24 hours for prescription requests.

Emergency & Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty six days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has, to the best of our ability. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call immediately. We will do our best to treat your pet, and ensure they receive the required treatment. As we are not a 24 hour facility, sometimes the best treatment plan for our patients will include transfer to an overnight emergency clinic for continued care. If you feel your pet is in a life threatening situation, we recommend going straight to our sister vet, Saint Frances Veterinary Specialists. They are located  at 625 Dekalb Industrial Way, Decatur, GA 30033. Phone: (404) 924-2000

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our veterinarians will also see patients as work-ins first thing in the morning, beginning at 9:00am. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.
